Hyderabad: In a list of 10 cities, Hyderabad stands fifth with a City Inclusion Score of 39.58 out of 100. The Social Inclusion Score of the city is 42.2, positioning it at 10th place while the city stands at fourth rank with Industrial Inclusion Score of 46.4, in 2023, according to a report.

Avtar group, a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) solution provider, released the second edition of ‘Top Cities for Women in India (TCWI)’ index, on Thursday. The data obtained from various government sources including Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS July 2022-June 2023), national census and crime records were assimilated apart from Avtar’s primary research on women’s employment. The research comprised an open survey and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) between July 2023 and December 2023 in which over 1,200 women from across the country participated. The metrices derived from both the survey and governmental data were put together to arrive at the comprehensive City Inclusion Scores (CIS).

“Single woman is a taboo, I guess. But I found a house owner who is very good and welcoming. So I am in a good space right now. But yes, I do think like when it is happening to me, then what happens to a woman who is earning less,” a FGD participant from Hyderabad said.

Dr Saundarya Rajesh, Founder-president, Avtar group, said: “Vibrant employment opportunities, good quality of life including educational and healthcare facilities, well-connected transportation networks, experience of safety are defining attributes of inclusive cities for women. Avtar’s annual index, Top Cities for Women in India is a clarion call to create equitable pathways to increase women’s workforce participation in the country.”

The study also mapped the overall emotions of the FGD participants about their cities and segregated them under positive, negative and neutral emotions. In Hyderabad, 37.5 per cent of women gave out neutral emotion while 12.5 per cent fell under negative and 50 per cent under positive. Safety, transport facilities and access to work, supportive work environments majorly contributed to a positive perception.
